Competition

19th FESTIVAL (2015)

The information and advance notice, and during the Festival will be published on the official Facebook page (which are forwarded to the Twitter account), and the oficcial blog.

COMPETITION

1st  All  the guitarists registered as  A) Active Students or B) Listener Student + Competition, except the winners of previous editions, will be able to take part in the Competition.

2nd There will be two categories: Junior Competition and “Ciudad de Coria” (Senior) Competition.

3rd  Participants will only be allowed to register in one of the two existing categories.

JUNIOR COMPETITION

4th  Up to 18 year old.

5th  A free choice repertoire of a maximum length of 20 minutes.

 

"CIUDAD de CORIA" COMPETITION (SENIOR)

4th The competition will start on Thursday, 6th of August in the morning, with the qualifying stage. It will be announced the day of the draw to decide the performance order in the competition.

5th It consists of three stages: 1. The qualifying stage 2. The semi Final. 3. The Final one.

 

THE QUALIFYING STAGE:

a) Candidates will choose one piece from the following list:

    A movement of the Decamerón Negro, by Leo Brouwer.

    A Prelude by Johann Sebastian Bach.

    A Study or a Prelude by Heitor Villa-Lobos.

    Variaciones sobre un tema de Mozart (Variations on a Subject by Mozart). Op.9, by Fernando Sor (without        repetitions)

    Elogio de la Danza (Praise of Dance), by L. Brouwer.

    En los trigales (In Wheat fields), by Joaquín Rodrigo.

    A Bagatelle, by William Walton.

    A Sonata, by Domenico Scarlatti.
     

b) In addition, each contestant will be requested to play a piece or a group of pieces of his choice.

THE QUALIFYING STAGE WILL NOT BE ABLE EXCEEDING TEN MINUTES OF LENGT.

 

 

THE SEMI-FINAL STAGE:

On Friday 8th. The Semifinalists will be asked to prepare a free list of repertoire.  The maximum amount of time allowed for this performance will be 20 minutes.

In the Semi-final stage, the pieces already played in the qualifying stage will not be able to be repeated.

 

 

THE FINAL STAGE:

On Saturday 9th. Finalists will be asked to prepare a free list of repertoire.  The maximum amount of time allowed for this performance will be 25 minutes.

In the final stage, the pieces already played in the qualifying and semifinal stages will not be able to be repeated.

 

JURY

It will be composed by music and culture personalities. The decision will be final.

  • 5.000 € cash
  • A Guitar concert belonging to the Luthier José Rodríguez Peña, valued at 6.000 €
  • Concert in Miami (Florida, USA) to The Miami Classical Guitar Society
  • Concert sponsored by the Cervantes Institute, to provide in any of its offices around the world.
  • Concert in Germany
  • Concert in the 20th Festival Ciudad de Coria
  • Set of D'Addario products
  • Diploma

 

Second prize

  • 1.200 € cash
  • Set of D'Addario products
  • Diploma

 

Third prize

  • 600 € cash
  • Set of D'Addario products

Fourth prize

  • 150 € cash

Prize to the best classified local resident in Extremadura

  • Free Matriculation for the 20th Ciudad de Coria Festival

To compete for this prize, the contestant must present, before his performance, a residence certificate in any villages of the autonomous region of Extremadura.

 

Prize from the Audience

  • 200 € (this prize can be accumulated to any others)

 

Those present to the final stage will be given a ballot paper with the finalists’ names.

Those present to all the final performances will indicate in these ballot papers the guitarist’s name that, in their opinion, deserves the first prize and will place it in the ballot box. When all the performances have finished, a recount will be done, on the stage and in presence of the audience, to award this prize from the audience.

When entering this competition, the contestants agree with the conditions and the jury’s decision, resigning to all claim.

The cash prizes are subject to the retentions that the law marks.
